Lakeland Community College Emergency Alerts powered by SchoolMessenger is used to provide timely communication to employees, credit students, non-credit students, and college affiliates in emergency situations.

How do I get text alerts?

 

Make sure you provide your cell phone information to Lakeland.

  • Employees must update records via Human Resources.
  • Credit Students must update record via Admissions.
  • Non-Credit Students must update record via Continuing Education Office.

What type of notifications are sent?

 

  • EMERGENCY Notification
    • Extreme severe weather emergency
    • Example: Tornado in area, Sheriff-issued snow emergency, etc. - this will not include general weather watches.
    • Dangerous gas leaks, chemical spills or biological hazards on or around campus
    • Confirmed, uncontrolled fire on campus or in a campus building
    • Violent episode
      • Example: bomb threat, terrorist incident, active shooter, etc.
  • College Closing
    • Any complete school closure
    • Includes main campus, Lakeland East campus in Madison or the Holden University Center
  • General Police Notification
    • Local, severe weather around the Lakeland Campus Example: Snow warnings, tornado warning, etc.
    • Major traffic alert in or around campus
    • Local road or parking lot closures
    • High increase of a specific or major crime

How will I receive the notifications?

 

Notifications will be delivered to:

  • Primary/Home phone as voice recordings
  • Cell phone as voice and text messages
  • Email Account (Your Lakeland account is entered by default if you are a credit student or employee)

Credit Students/Employees: You can modify your preferences on which notifications you would like to receive or which methods of delivery to use, please log into your SchoolMessenger account.

How many messages will I receive per month?

 

On average, we anticipate sending no more than 1-3 messages a month based on default preferences. 

This system is ONLY used by the Lakeland Police department to deliver Emergency Notifications, College Closures, and General Police Updates.

I am a current credit student or employee. How do I update my name, primary phone, cell number or college email address?

REVIEW MY INFORMATION:

  • Log into myLakeland and click Personal Information in the myLakeland Services channel on the Home tab.
  • Click View Address(es) and Phone(s) to display current phone information.
  • Click View E-mail Address(es) to display current email address information.

UPDATE MY INFORMATION:

You must change this information directly with Lakeland Community College.

Credit Students: 
For name changes, you must complete the Student Record Change Form, available in person at the Student Service Center.

For all other contact information updates, please send an email to Registration02@lakelandcc.edu from your Lakeland Student email with the information that you would like updated. 

Employees: 
Please complete the Personal Data Sheet to update your information, print out and return to HR. 
Note: You do not need to complete all information requested on the sheet (such as SSN or DOB) but we do encourage you to take this opportunity to provide us with current personal E-mail Address, Marital Status, and Emergency Contacts.

I am not a current credit student or employee. Can I still receive notifications?

YES! 

Non-Credit Students
You are automatically enrolled to receive notifications during the dates you are scheduled to be on campus. 

College Affiliate
We are working on an opt in method to allow college friends and affiliates to receive notifications. It will be available soon so check back often!

I am not a current credit student or employee. Can I still modify my account preferences?

No, this option is only available to Lakeland employees and active credit students. Your account will be configured with the default settings.

Non-Credit Students
Your account will expire when you have completed your scheduled time on campus. 

College Affiliate
Your account will expire on the date you specified when opting in.

I never modified my preferences. What are the default settings?

Your primary/home phone number and cell phone number provided to Lakeland when you first applied or were hired, as well as the email address that Lakeland has provided to you as a member of the college, will automatically be added to the notification system as methods for delivery. 

Emergency Notifications will be delivered to all available communications methods (phone, cell, email). 

General Police and College Closing Notifications, will be delivered to email and to text, if you provided a cell phone number and accepted the initial opt-in text.

How do I "opt-out" of different types of messages?

The ability to modify preferences via contact manager is only available to employees and credit students.

To change contact preferences, log into your Emergency Alerts Contact Manager account. Your login is your Lakeland email address.

To opt out of text, you can reply STOP to any message received or text STOP to 67587. 

To unsubscribe to personal emails received, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email.

NOTE: You CANNOT opt out of Emergency Notifications or your college email as a delivery method.

You can text SUBSCRIBE or OPTIN to 67587.

Is this service free?

Lakeland Emergency Alerts powered by SchoolMessenger does not charge any message fees to recipients, however your personal wireless carrier may charge you delivery fees based on your contract. Please review your contract before you agree to opt-in to receive text messages.

If I receive an EMERGENCY ALERT. Who do I call for more information?

Each situation is different. An informational phone number or callback number might be included with the message. An updated notification will be sent as soon as further details or instructions are available. If you are on campus and you need emergency help, please contact the Lakeland Police Department at 440-525-7241 or 911. Please do not contact this number for technical or computer issues involving SchoolMessenger.

How do I change or reset my password?

At the SchoolMessenger login page, click Forgot your password? and follow the prompts.

Note: SchoolMessenger accounts are only available to employees and credit students.

Can I add my parent(s), relative(s), or someone who picks me up to this service?

Absolutely! Once logged into your Emergency Alerts Contact Manager account, you can add additional phone numbers, SMS text numbers and email addresses.
