Submitting Midterm Grades - Reporting Attendance

Reporting Attendance

Reporting attendance must be completed for all students. This information is used for financial aid recipients, for veterans, WIA, and TAA students who must document attendance on a regular basis. Without this documentation, the students who receive financial aid will lose a portion of their award package. These students will receive a bill from the Financial Aid Office.

Federal financial aid regulations require the college to monitor attendance for students receiving financial aid. There are two separate requirements:

Item 1. A student must begin class attendance to establish initial eligibility for financial aid.

Item 2. If a student stops attending classes, the amount of financial aid awarded must be recalculated based on the last date of attendance.

Attendance Reporting Period

Faculty members are asked to provide attendance information during the third week of the semester. You will receive reminders in your Lakeland email as the reporting period approaches.

What is Considered Attendance?

A student has attended if he or she has been present for at least one entire class, even if the student has only attended once.

For online courses, the student has attended if an assignment or test has been completed, or contact has been made with the student, and you consider that attendance.

Your responsibility is to mark if students attend at least one time. Mark students who have attended with a Y. You must mark every student who has NOT attended with an N. If you do not know if the student attended the class, then you must err on the side of the student and record that she/he did attend. Attendance must be reported even if the student has withdrawn from the class.

Please note that you will only mark attendance for the lecture portion of lecture/lab classes and for classes that have been in session for the full and first eight-week sessions ONLY.

Do I Report for All Students and All Classes?

Report attendance for all students in classes which have credit hours assigned to them. Some labs and clinicals are not reported for this reason.

A roster of students in the course is displayed along with blank fields for entering their Midterm Grade, Last Attend Date and Hours Attended.

In the Midterm Grade column, enter a “Y” or “N” for each student.

  • Enter “Y” if the student attended at least one class.

How Do I Make Changes?

If a student begins attendance later in the semester, including students who add the class late, you may have to make corrections.

Before the announced Attendance Reporting period is over:

Changes can be made in myLakeland. Go back to the Midterm Grades form and update information as needed. (Check your Lakeland email for the dates).

After the announced Attendance Reporting period is over:

Changes must be given directly to the Financial Aid Office. You can visit the office at the Student Service Center (A-1004) with the information, send it by inter-office mail or e-mail Tracy Febel, the Director for Financial Aid at tfebel@lakelandcc.edu.

Please include:

  • the student’s name and LID.
  • the course CRN.
  • the new attendance information.

Updates must be submitted directly to Financial Aid by you, the faculty. Updates submitted through a student are not accepted. All submissions should include your signature and date (an e-mail from your Lakeland e-mail address is acceptable).
